Leah was very excited to receive a "Baby doll!!!" and "Stroller!!!"
Tucking in the newly named Cecilia.
Leah wasn't too sure about her cake at first.
She warmed up to the idea after a little red icing.
Then she requested the birthday song be sung again and again.
Leah and her chorus.
Alex (shown here) and Sam came over to play yesterday. Leah's still
talking about it today. She clearly enjoyed the visit.
Leah went to Susan to get her haircut -- nothing drastic, just a little
trim before the big birthday. Susan cuts Grandma's hair and started
cutting Mommy's hair when Mommy was 4. She and Leah are already
fast friends thanks to 2 strawberry lollipops. Leah has been telling
anyone who will listen, "Haircut. Thanks, Susan. Lollipops!"
Playing in puddles was always called putching by my family.
Leah definitely has the putching-enthusiast gene.
Unfortunately, Houston got more than a foot of rain at pumpkin patch
time this year. This photo summarizes our experience: wet, muddy,
and picked-over.
Leah still managed to have a good time and selected a little pumpkin.
Leah rode the carousel once in Daddy's arms (near the cheetah) and
once on the bench with Mommy. She looked miserable both times, but
as soon as the ride stopped she said, "Again! Again!"
After Leah and I came home from our favorite grocery store (the
one with balloons) Leah decided to recreate the trip. She got her
car, loaded Henry into the passenger seat, packed the basket of
groceries into her trunk, put on her shades, held onto her purse
and balloon, and wound her way through the entire house. (Our
favorite grocery store is far away.) The complexity of her
reenactment was unbelievable.
Leah noticed that a lot of little kids were enjoying the zoo
from their parents' shoulders. Leah decided that was the
way to do it. "Shoulders? Shoulders!"
Checking out the brand new baby elephant.
The wind whips through Leah's hair as she looks out to sea (fake pond).
A family self-portrait.
Leah isn't allowed to touch the laptop. You can see
that sometimes she likes to test the concept. She
got herself all situated at the "work station" before I
found her.
Sadly, there won't be any postings for the next week
or two. We are sending the computer away for repairs.
(Through no fault of Leah's.) Please don't give up on us.
We promise to return.
Claiming a spot on the parachute.
Catching a bubble.
Playing maracas in the parachute tent with Uncle Caleb.
(Could life get any better?)
"Fire truck!" (The "truck" is being pulled along by Miss Sherri, Leah's
Gymboree teacher. Leah has talked about the fire truck and Miss Sherri
every day for the last two weeks.)
Saving the kitty from the tree.
Putting out the fire with the jump rope fire hose. (Notice
her mouth is making the water shishing sound.)
Uncle Caleb came with us to Gymboree while he was in
town. Leah loved having the additional attention.
Mommy loved having the additional photographer
(and the company).
Leah spent the weekend at home with Grandma while Mommy
and Daddy headed up to Maryland for a fantastic wedding and
birthday celebration with friends. We all had a great time, but
now we're all exhausted. (In unrelated news, Leah recently
picked up some new pastry skills from Grandma.)
