Peter pushing the girls on their first (of many) visit to Michigan Avenue.
A couple of weeks ago we met our friends, Matt, Alison, Noah, and Josh
in Chicago for the weekend. We all had a great time, and I finally got to
ride the Navy Pier Ferris wheel. I've wanted to ride it since I lived there
in the late 90's, but no one (Peter) would go with me. Lucky for me, Leah,
Matt, and Noah were game.
Noah and Leah show off their bravery to the younger siblings required
to stay on the ground.
Leah on top of Chicago. (Sorry for the bad picture, but it was A LOT
higher than I expected and taking more pictures would have required
me letting go of my precious daughter.)
Alison, Josh, Peter, and Zoe cheering our triumphant return. (This picture
is VERY cropped so you can see our lovely friends, but let me assure you
they were mere specks on the pier.)
Hans, Marlene, and Julian enjoying the pool.
Leah attempting to regain her center of attention status.
Having a good time with Hans and Julian.
Zoe felt that Hans required further inspection.
Leah spilled her milk so I handed her a rag and told her to clean
it up. (I was proud of my "natural consequences" parenting.) She
gleefully accepted the rag, dramatically fell to her knees, and started
singing "Sing Sweet Nightingale," Cinderella's work song. She
accompanied it with several under-her-breath comments about poor
Cinderella and her evil stepmother. I guess that would be me.
She had way more fun than I intended. Who is teaching whom about
consequences?
Zoe showing off her almost crawl.
Yesterday, she learned to sit up on her own. She demonstrated
her new skill by peaking over her crib railing at the end of her nap.
Clearly we're a little late lowering the crib, but the grandparents will
be happy to know we did it last night -- no more peaking over, just
peaking through.
Everyone wanted to snuggle with Laura and Nathan on their recent visit.
Showing off their Texas t-shirts.
"You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of the girl"
Absolutely true. She has already proclaimed that when she grows up she
will move back to Houston.
"Made in Texas"
True, but I think she's more of a 'Scony girl.
