Now that's a birthday hat!
Bossing her guests around.
The celebrators.
Giddy up, Zebra!
Trusting her sister to catch her -- brave girl.
She was definitely a cautious present opener that
preferred the view from Daddy's lap.
Enjoying time with Uncle Caleb.
Warming up to the idea because of our singing, cheering, and clapping.
Leah helps her blow out the candle (while Zoe eats her hat).
"You mean I can touch it too?
"I LOVE CAKE!"
A fistful of cake.
A sweet kiss for the birthday girl.
We had her favorite, grilled cheese, for dinner. Here she is doing a little
grilled cheese cheer.
Digging the hat.
"Not too sure why Mommy set down a flaming cake in front of me."
Don't miss the picture post, but this was too funny to wait.
Laura: Leah, what did you do at school today?
Leah: Actually, I opened one eye and shut the other a bunch of times.
I was winking, you know, like Sarah Palin.
Grammie was kind enough to fly across the country to play with
the girls while Peter and I headed to the wedding that prompted
this whole crazy vacation.
She was mostly confined to the area right around our hotel, but
on Sunday morning we managed to head to Crissy Field to check
out the water and enjoy a wonderful view of Golden Gate bridge.
My brother and I were forced to dip our feet into the frigid water
sometime in the mid-80's, so I decided the girls needed to do it too.
Leah was very cooperative since she had Grammie leading the way.
Zoe just tthought we were insane. She touched the water for a split
second and wouldn't unfold her legs after that. She has some
serious stomach muscles.
Four sandy feet.
Thank you, Grammie!
We met up with Hans, Marlene, and Julian for
some playtime at the park followed by delicious
Thai food. The evening was a big success.
After our cable car ride, we headed to Pier 39 where we checked out
the sea lions that like to sun themselves there. Zoe missed them.
She also snoozed through our trip under the Golden Gate bridge, but
at least she looks like she was having a pleasant dream.
Leah and I pose in front of the city.
By the fourth day we were all exhausted, but we bravely headed
out for a cable car/bay cruise adventure. Sadly, the weather turned
cold, and the cable car broke down -- twice.
Waiting.
More waiting.
"Enjoying" the ride.
The next day we picked up Hans and Julian and headed for Muir Woods.
Here we are in front of a big tree.
How big you might ask?
Checking out the creek. (Except for Julian who slept through the creek.)
On the second day we met Claudia and Aubrey at the newly opened
museum. Here the girls pose on it's much-hyped living roof.
But, frankly, they were more interested in the cat statue outside.
And the fish.
So the first few days of vacation I tried to hit restaurants that had great
reviews and were described as family-friendly. Here we're breakfasting
at Dottie's True Blue Cafe. The book said it had a highchair. Hmmph.
The book was mistaken. The food was great, but it was hard to enjoy with
a squirming baby on your lap. We took turns, and we attempted a few more
restaurants before settling on a lovely, empty sandwich shop that served 3
meals a day (including PB&J and grilled cheese). A big thank you to Tom
Colicchio's 'witchcraft for cleaning up after us multiple times a day.
We just returned from a family vacation to San Francisco. The first
morning Leah and I headed to Chinatown to see how fortune cookies
were made. (Peter and Zoe stayed at the hotel for nap.)
I've posted ten times today so check out the earlier posts.
Sometimes you sacrifice safety for the sake of a great
photo opportunity. This was clearly one of those times.
I promise she won't be doing this again, or at least, I
won't let her stay inside of the dishwasher ever again.
Not too sure about riding the frightening kitty.
Warming up to the ride.
Loving it!
When we climbed onto to zoo train yesterday Zoe
immediately started signing "more".
Leah loves the customary train waving.
Do you notice anything similar about our body language?
Leah loves all things bug. She found one of our Halloween decorations
particularly appealing.
The girl loves to vacuum. I don't know where that came from.
I'm not sure what the name is for the niece of your aunt
by marriage, but Leah and Katie don't seem to care.
Leah has used my camera a little bit recently. I loved this one.
