If you know me well at all this photo will be shocking.
But the girls desperately wanted these dresses, and they
wear them all the time. This is definitely nurture over nature.
Both girls' schools teach this stuff and encourage spirit wear.
This was our third year walking with Aunt Heather's family in memory
of her mom. Here the girls pose in front of the art museum and the pink-
watered fountain before we get started.
This is at lunch after the walk. But I'm sure it's just the first of many
pictures of Zoe in a bar.
A neat art studio in Door County where you can do all sorts
of art projects and not worry about the mess.
Grammie made these beautiful capes that the girls opened for
the first time while at a house on Lake Michigan (hence the
better than usual background).
Al Johnson's Swedish restaurant was a big hit. Mostly because it
has goats on the roof. Gotta love that.
I know there are regional differences about the name of this game,
but I grew up calling it putt-putt. So here is our first family attempt
at putt-putt.
Leah posing proudly after her first hole-in-one.
To our delight we headed outside and found another maze -- this one
through the trees.
Proud to be the first to the center!
Gathering at the center.
A family of maze conquerors!
We headed up to Door County for the weekend and had a marvelous
time. The apple orchard we visited had this crazy straw maze. The
girls were both so excited about it.
But this pitch black, multi-level, totally flammable maze was a little too
much for them on their own. So brave Mommy headed in with Leah.
MANY minutes and several head bumps later we discovered the way out.
Then Zoe wanted in on the action and the 3 of us headed back into
the maze for another attempt. And another. And another. It was
awesome, but I'm shocked that such a thing is allowed these days.
I am quite certain no regulator or fire inspector has looked at this thing.
The camera flash gives a false impression. There is NO light
inside this mountain of straw and wood.
S is a good kid, and he makes my Zoe laugh! I approve.
(Just got this picture from his mom.)
So it was actually tea NEXT to the senator, but that counts. We met
friends downtown for a princess tea, and Senator Kohl was sitting
next to us. (To be fair, his table was not set for the princess service.)
He was kind enough to pose with our prince and princesses on his way out.
Leah got to make a poster about herself and take in a treat to share.
The girl definitely has public speaking skills.
Our Labor Day backyard camping extravaganza ran into a few challenges
this year. We had to push it back a night because of rain, then it poured
in the middle of our outdoor dinner even on our new night. We rushed
everything inside and Peter roasted the marshmallows over the steaming
grill. (You can see wet Peter in the window.)
Then Peter got called into the hospital, so I got called into a more active
camping role.
The girls played War. (I know it has a more p.c. name these days, but I
don't remember what it is.) Then Zoe begged to quit the game and go
to sleep.
Leah chatted for at least another hour, Zoe tried to ignore her, and
eventually the cuties looked like this -- warm and cozy even though
it fell into the 40s.
